We're seeking a Fixed Term Contractor with suitable experience to back fill the in-house Employment Tax Manager during a period of absence of up to six months.
The Interim Employment Tax manager will be responsible for managing the Virgin Atlantic Group’s UK and International Employment Taxes compliance and leading all Employment Tax workstreams.
The role is responsible for supporting the business activities and ensuring the group operates in a tax efficient manner whilst also managing tax risks and maintaining an appropriate Employment Tax (ET) control framework. The Employment Tax Manager will work closely with the Reward, Payroll and Legal teams to proactively identify the need for tax advisory projects and maintain a compliant and cost-effective remuneration strategy.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Managing the annual employment tax compliance including PAYE Settlement Agreement, Taxed Award Scheme, P11Ds, Short Term Business Visitors and associated payments.
- Leading the globally mobile tax compliance process with support from external advisors. Working with our People Team to ensure a seamless end-to-end service for globally mobile employees.
- Identifying areas of non-compliance that impact ET compliance. This role will work cross functionally and play a leading part in resolving the end-to-end processes that feed into ET compliance.
- Identifying areas of tax risk, performing appropriate research, and ensuring recommendations are implemented.
- Ownership of UK and International advisory projects, managing project delivery and other department contributions through to submission and HMRC/tax authority sign off.
- Identifying changes in relevant tax legislation and settling actions required to meet compliance obligations.
- Working closely with Legal Counsel to review and advise on Termination Payments, Contracts, Reward Schemes and Lump Sum Payments.
- Identifying and proposing tax compliance and planning opportunities for senior manager/business consideration.
- Provide advice and technical support to Legal, Commercial, HR, Reward, Front Line teams and other internal departments.
- Support union negotiations and the delivery of a tax efficient remuneration package.
- Proactive auditing, testing and maintenance of ET processes and controls.
- Support ‘upstream’ functions to ensure appropriate data management, sound decision making, and suitable processes are in place to deliver quality, reliable data for tax purposes.
- Responsible for driving a strong relationship with HMRC and other tax authorities, including coordinating responses to HMRC/tax authorities’ correspondence and encouraging dispute resolution.
Do you have comprehensive experience in employment tax with strong understanding of tax compliance relevant to a large group?
Are you CTA, ACCA, ACA qualified or equivalent?
In addition to the above we’re looking for:
- A good working knowledge of Oracle and Excel is advantageous.
- Understanding employment tax considerations for a globally itinerant workforce.
- Excellent communication skills, able to lead, and negotiate with internal and external parties
- Experience of driving tax efficiencies, finding opportunities for enhancing processes and highlighting potential for tax savings.
- Ability to weigh up available information and make strategic and robust recommendations.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple work streams at the same time.
- Awareness and appreciation of commercial impact on the business of tax issues, including sensitivity around employment packages.
