Airport Duty Manager – IAD
Location: Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
Hours: 40hrs per week (Work schedules include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays)
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: $72,042 - $96,056 depending on experience

In a nutshell
In this role as Duty Manager, you’ll provide operational management and direction for all aspects of the on-the-day VAA airport operation, ensuring delivery of consistently great customer experience -with safe, secure and on-time performance as a major element of that experience in accordance with VAA procedures and policies, our brand values and our service.
Day to day
- Preparing and planning ahead for the operational day considering operational implications to make proactive decisions in order to safeguard the customer experience and the operation
- Be accountable for effective disruption management in order to meet customer expectations and service standards and take appropriate action such as compensation and care packaging
- Business and contingency planning, ensure all VAA corporate safety and security processes and procedures are followed at all times by all staff in order to meet/exceed regulatory standards and deliver customer experience and expectations. Ensure Duty of Care is met for Health and Safety of Staff.
- Collate information from multiple internal and external sources e.g. IOCC, Airport Authority and Dispatchers, in order to assess and use to make the right decisions for the operation at the right time.
- Lead, empower, engage and co-ordinate all areas of the operation on the day, both in-source and outsource, to make sure they are well briefed and prepared in order to deliver the VAA service together with the daily accountability of reaching OTP and revenue targets. To lead the tactical calls and briefings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Financials including vendor delivery of contract to agreed SLA's, commercial impact of operational decisions, On Time Performance and management of ancillary revenue
- Provide accurate, timely and adequate feedback to Supervisors on individual/team performance to allow them to mentor and evaluate individual performance and therefore identify future talent.
- Build and maintain relationships at the appropriate level with counterparts at the airport authority and other key partners and third party suppliers
- Ensure contractor resourcing and performance is monitored and provided in line with contract SLAs building productive working relationships so that the service delivered by the vendor staff is indistinguishable to that of VAA employees
About you
Do you have excellent below-wing/ramp airline operational experience in all areas of aircraft handling?
Are you a proven Manager with the ability to lead, empower and manage a team and suppliers? Then this could be the role for you!
Alongside the above we're looking for the following to be successful in your application:
- Comfortable working with complex data - assimilates data quickly and uses it to build decisions and brings it to life.
- Customer-centric with excellent commercial foresight and experience of budget management.
- Innovative approach to problem-solving, ability to work under pressure and flexibility to work during unsocial hours.
- Proficiency with DCS and automated check-in; familiarization with ticketing and fare rules, baggage services, aircraft loading and unloading, weight and balance and all related aircraft services activities.
- Good presentation skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The right to live and work in the US
